Welcome to episode three of the Niche Blogging Tips Podcast, we're going to continue in our How to Start a blog series. In this episode we're going to discuss getting a domain and hosting. So make sure you choose, you have to make sure you choose the right blogging platform in choosing your domain name and hosting.

And let me break that down real quick. If you have, you have two types of sites you have, I guess, non hosted sites and you have self hosted sites. So we'll just focus on the self hosted sites. First of all, the sites that are not self hosted are going to be your free sites. So those sites is sites such as Blogger, Medium.com, even LinkedIn, you can publish content, you can kind of publish a blog on LinkedIn also.

But we want to focus something on well, real quick, the drawbacks to those, especially a site like Blogger which Google owns. You may have ads on there that you can't control or what not, or what not. So and you don't want that you want more of something that you can control the self hosted blog, and that's on the WordPress platform.

So the WordPress is a content management system. So but what you want to do is you want to go and get a hosting provider where you can you know, you can purchase your hosting and your domain at the same place. What we recommend is first of all, before I even talk about what we recommend, there's a lot of different hosting and domain companies out there you have GoDaddy, Namecheap, I can go on and on and on and on.

So we we get a couple of dollars off that so you want to make sure that you you know you go over there or you know go to one that you are most comfortable with. But SiteGround is an easy, easy platform to start a blog in and purchase your domain name and all of that stuff and get get hosting over there as well.

But you have to get a domain name and that's your.com name or your.org name or your.edu name. And you want to make sure that you get something unique you want to make sure that that that domain name is branded and how I spoke about it a little bit in the previous episode. So you want to make sure that it's maybe if you are Aaron's donuts purchase Aaronsdonuts.com Or you can do something like this if your Aaron's donuts let's say your Aaron's donuts and you are in the city of let's say Philadelphia.

You want to make let's say you you can get something such as Philadelphia doughnuts I'm sure somebody has purchased that but something to where you can put that location behind donuts it can be phidonuts.com. Philly donuts so you know some something to that perspective. So always go with something in terms of branded and or something in terms of the location if you are a local business. So that's the little caveat if you are a local business, you can always go that route also.

But in getting that domain name and in that web hosting, make sure that you get an easy to use interface such as SiteGround. And you know the make sure you get a A cool a cool web hosting plan. Also, with these web hosting plans, they're going to be a few to choose from no matter who you purchase it through. So you don't have to break the bank, you can get some fairly at a fairly decent, decent price.

In terms of paying for that, basically, you're, you're more than likely going to pay for. Sometimes when you purchase these, you'll pay for an entire year for your domain name, sometimes you might pay only monthly for the hosting. And sometimes you pay for both for an entire year. So pick whichever one that suits your budget, or what have you, but a self hosted site, you have to purchase.

Well, you don't have to purchase. So what I was gonna say is in the self hosted site, you have the content management system, Wordpress, you'll see that somewhere within the dashboard, whether if it's in a cPanel, or if you don't have what's called a cPanel, you will be guided with that particular hosting company.

The cool thing about these hosting companies is this, the support you're going to get from them from almost all of them is great. And a lot of them provide a lot of videos to how you do this and how you do that. And we provide videos also on our YouTube channel. So we're gonna be putting out we put out, you know, content, so I don't know, you know, depending on when you're listening to this episode, in terms of the release of the episode, you might see, you know, a video or two already up there. But, you know, our plan is to put out weekly content, you know, to help you the blogger.

But in terms of those hosting companies, they have a lot of resources to help you in terms of almost just about anything you want to do and then you know, you can Google just you can Google anything if you run into any problems or what not, but usually, the hosting for those particular the support for those particular hosting companies are usually going to be A 1 so always know that you have that at at the fingertips of your of your hands and what not. So you always have help.
